NKOSIYABO FRANK NYONI

Nkosiyabo Frank Nyoni works with cloth, canvas, silicone, and oil pastels to create suspended colourful installations that invite viewers to engage with the complexities of tradition, spirituality, and the consequences of their practice.

Nkosiyabo was born in 2002, and embodies a profound sense of gratitude for his ancestors, a value deeply instilled in him from a young age. This reverence shapes both his life and artistic practice, as he draws upon the experiences and observations of his upbringing to inform his work. In his art, Nkosiyabo delves into the intricate and multifaceted realm of traditional witchcraft rituals, acknowledging their dual nature—both beneficial and harmful.

Nyoni harnessed his art skills through mentorship from more established artists including Moffat Takadiwa, Takunda Billiat and Julio Rizhi whom he works with at the Mbare Art Space.
